Tips for Proper Denture Storage

Dentures are your lifesavers during the day, giving you the confidence to smile, eat, and talk like the way once you did before losing your teeth. But at night when it’s time to take them out, what is the right way to store them? Proper denture storage helps to prevent damage and keeps them clean and fresh.

Why Caring For Your Dentures Is Important?

If you treat your dentures with care, they should last for many years. The types of dentures that you can get are full dentures, which replace the entire rows of teeth and partial dentures that replace several teeth. When you receive your dentures, you would also receive instruction about how to wear, clean, and store them. If you want to prevent your dentures from drying out, losing their shape, becoming stiff, you should store them effectively. Similarly, you must clean and store your dentures hygienically, or they can become the birthplace for mouth bacteria and develop plague and tarter, just like the natural teeth.

Storing Dentures

If your dentist has given you specific instructions, follow them. Otherwise, the best method of denture storage is to place them in clean water or a denture cleaning solution. Denture solution helps in reducing the number of bacteria and fungi living on the dentures, plus prevent unpleasant odors. However, never use dentures solutions without reading the instruction on the label. If the solution is created by dissolving tablets in warm water, make sure the water is not too hot. Otherwise, it may cause your dentures to warp.

If the dentures were soaking in a denture solution, rinse them well before putting them back in your mouth. It is important because the chemical is this solution can be harmful and can cause burns and pain.
